Today:  a conversation with Donna Stuckert of the Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction district, on the county's composting operations -- an added drop-off facility in Portage -- and the 2018 household hazardous waste collection schedule around Porter County.  The drop-offs allow residents a chance to bring in items that cannot be thrown  into the trash, such as oils, old gasoline and fluorescent bulbs.

We bring your a new conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  The Welcome Project collects first-person stories and pairs there with intentional conversations to help forge stronger ties within and across our communities.  Today, we hear how a young person's music lessons taught him about a community's diversity.

The Depot Museum and Art Gallery in Beverly Shores is getting ready for a unique fundraising event on May 11th called "5 X 5 At The Depot."  Board member Suzy Vance tells more about the Museum and Art Gallery, as well as about the upcoming fundraiser and how you can purchase locally-produced artwork at a good price and have fun doing it.

Urban League of Northwest Indiana President and CEO Dr. Vanessa McCloud joins us in the studio to talk about last week's  6th Annual Spring Diversity and Inclusion Awards -- and on the phone from his office is Jon Gold of  Tradewinds Services, the recipient of the 2018 "Moving the Needle" Award.  The luncheon program  featured keynote speaker Tony Lux, the retired Superintendent of the Merrillville Community Schools.  The Urban League of Northwest Indiana recognizes organizations that have notable diversity and inclusion programs.
