Maya Energy LLC is a Merrillville-based company that is working on the materials recovery and recycling facility that is proposed along West 35th Avenue in Gary.  The facility will accept many types of recyclables, construction and demolition waste and mixed waste that can be converted into fuel, and prepare it for end users.   The principal of the company, Jim Ventura, was on "Regionally Speaking" on Monday to explain the project and to answer questions about it.  Here's the conversation.

Today:  A conversation with the guest speaker at the July 23rd quarterly luncheon and program of the Northwest Indiana World Trade Alliance, at Avalon Manor in Merrillville.  Noted international economist Arthur Cyr is the director of the Claussen Center for World Business at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  His comments will focus on globalization and how the United States fits into the overall picture  -- as a uniquely American concept.

Whiting Mayor Joe Stahura came on "Regionally Speaking" on Monday to talk about his City Council's review of a move to establish fees for solid waste and recycling collection at homes, multi-unit housing and businesses... as well as higher water and sewer fees. The City Council is planning public hearings on the requests in mid-July. 

Stahura says Whiting may be the last city, or one of the last Indiana cities to offer free trash and recycling collection to its residents and businesses.


Today:   The president of the Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association, Dave Miller, joins us to talk about a recent visit to Capitol Hill to meet with Indiana's congressional delegation about needed housing finance reforms.  Miller feels that some reforms could be enacted before the end of the year.

Beth Mosher of the Chicagoland AAA will bring us the Independence Day travel forecast -- on the highways, on the rails and in the skies.  She says more Americans than ever are expected to travel during the July 4th holiday.
