The members of Northwest Indiana's top party rock musical group -- MR. FUNNYMAN  -- will visit the studio to talk about their group, their career and perhaps perform a few "stripped down" tunes, while also talking about their performance on MARCH 3rd at the annual "PET ROCK" fundraising event at County Line Orchard in Hobart, produced by Tom Lounges Entertainment, LLC  to benefit The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana.

The first half of this week's program features the two ladies co-starring in the short-run production of "ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE" (March 9-11) at the historic Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso.  Both MICHELE GUSTIN & MARY KAY STEELE have performed their roles in this production many times over the years and have likewise performed numerous times on the Opera House stage in various roles. We will also feature music from Patsy Cline with Lakeshore listeners.

The second hour of this week's program features regional actresses MYESHA TIARA and CORY GOODRICH, co-stars in the now running production of "Steel Magnolias" at Theatre At The Center (1040 Ridge Rd..) in Munster.  Songs from each respective production will be heard.

It is a pleasure to have such actresses of their caliber in the studio to talk about their career history, about the production, and share some music with Lakeshore listeners

Popular and successful LaPorte, Indiana book author -- CATHERINE LANIGAN -- whose novels were adapted into the 1980s classic films, "Romancing The Stone" and "Jewel of the Nile," returns for her fourth visit to the Lakeshore Public Radio Studio to guest on "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges."   This time, Catherine is coming to chat about her latest books being adapted to film for the Hallmark Channel.

Topic:  Indiana's 1950s Rock Pioneers -- THE JIANTS -- Gone, But Not Forgotten.

In-Studio Guests: AARON HEDGES (of The Crawpuppies), LINDA LANE HEDGES (wife of The Jiants' guitarist Jerry  Hedges)

Call-In Guests: BILL LEE BALSBAUGH (of The Jiants) and LISA UMBARGER (of The Toadies)     

The first half of this program will shine a spotlight on late Region resident and '50s rock guitarist JERRY HEDGES, who in 1959 with his rockabilly band THE JIANTS, were among the first to bring live rock 'n' roll music to Marion, Indiana with a pair of early 45rpm singles.  Nearly 60 years later, the band's music has gotten popular in Europe, was included on a European compilation albums, and is featured in a 2017 film with top stars! 

Trading budding rock stardom to become an educator in Northwest Indiana,  Jerry was the father of AARON HEDGES, the bassist of today's hugely popular regional band, THE CRAWPUPPIES.  

Joining Aaron and Linda Hedges on the program by phone will be BILL LEE BALSBAUGH (the former piano man of THE JIANTS) and LISA UMBARGER of the '90s alt-rock group, THE TOADIES (whose father RAY UMBARGER was rhythm guitarist/bassist of THE JIANTS).    Listeners will hear both of  The Jiants' 1959 hits, "Tornado" and "She's My Woman," as well as The Toadies' awesome 1990 remake of "Tornado" given a heavier alt-rock treatment.

The first half of the show features amazing vocalist BEKKA BRAMLETT and the second half features DANN ROGERS.  Each of these amazing, if somewhat under the radar artists, will  chat about their respective careers, their famous family connections, and music from each of their catalogs will be featured.  Bramlett and Rogers recently collaborated on a new recording project and that will be discussed as well.

Northwest Indiana book author HEATHER AUGUSTYN has published many titles about the art, music, culture and people of Jamaica.  Her latest book "ALPHA BOYS SCHOOL: The Cradle of Jamaican Music," will be the primary topic of discussion on Heather's visit to "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges."  The show will also feature Jamaican music and discussion of Heather's travels to the island while doing research for her series of books, including her excellent 2014 book, "Song Birds: Pioneering Women in Jamaican Music."
