Indiana Republicans To Meet For Party Convention Amid In-Party Fights

Jun 8, 2018

Indiana Republicans just went through a Senate primary dubbed one of the "nastiest in the nation." And now there’s a fight over whether the party platform should define marriage as between a man and a woman.

State Auditor Tera Klutz is on the ballot this November. She says she was worried about party unity.

“I was worried about people possibly staying home if they were bitter. And that’s not what I’m seeing or hearing,” Klutz says.

Delegates will resolve the platform fight at their convention and try to tamp down concerns the party is divided. Secretary of State Connie Lawson, also on the ticket this fall, says she’s confident the party will have a respectful debate.

“We’re going to get things worked out and we’re going to hang together and we’re going to be there for a victory in November,” Lawson says.

Delegates will officially nominate Lawson and Klutz – along with State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell – to run for reelection.
